How Does Wireless Charging Work?

Wireless charging is becoming one of the most essential in the daily life of man. Electricity is the only capital for all the products we use today.

We get most of this electricity through wired transmission. What makes this wired transmission widely used is that it has various problems. In the event of natural disasters, this wired transmission is not only cut off but also causes various disturbances.

How Does Wireless Charging Work

But in recent times wireless transmission has been making great strides. Wireless charging technology is now widely used, especially for charging telephones and electric vehicles.

Researchers have discovered a wireless charging system that can recharge moving electric cars, robots and drones while they are running. This new technology is seen as the biggest step towards implementing wireless power transmission in the future

Wireless charging technology

Wireless charging technology is based on two main rules. They are

  1. Electromagnetic induction.
  2. Resonance.

Electromagnetic induction.

It is likely that many people are aware of electromagnetic induction. According to this, if you place an object within the boundaries of a magnetic field, electricity will start flowing into it. In particular, it is the basis for the operation of the transformer. The same electromagnetic induction law is used in wireless charging technology.

But the drawback is that it is only able to transmit wirelessly over very short distances. This is not useful when the distance between the charged object and the power source increases. Synchronization is the technology used to fix this.

Resonance

A synchronization is an event in which an object vibrating at a certain frequency amplifies another object with a higher force at the natural frequency value of that object. This synchronous high frequency is capable of converting even a small amount of force into waves of large force.

As the value of the force increases in this process, the length of the generated electromagnetic waves and its energy increase. Therefore this synchronous frequency can be used in conjunction with the law of electromagnetic induction to conduct electricity over long distances by wireless transmission. So both of these are very essential for wireless charging technology.

Charging technology for vehicles.

To charge smartphones with wireless charging they must not move on the charging pad. This is easily possible with regard to smartphones. But long-distance car-like vehicles have to wait for hours to be recharged according to current charging technology. This results in more time wasted and shorter battery life.

Wireless chargers also generate an electromagnetic field around themselves and transmit electricity to the device. using (using frequency technology). The problem with this is that even if the distance between the power source and the receiver changes slightly, the value of the synchronous frequency also changes.

The problem with the old process.

Three years ago, a team led by Shanhui Fan, a professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University, first discovered wireless charging technology for movable objects in their laboratory. This wireless charger was able to transmit electricity without interruption even if the distance between the power source and the receiver changed. To achieve this the researchers connected an amplifier and a feedback resistor to the charger circuit.

This allows the computer to automatically change the synchronous frequency value according to the distance between the moving object and the charger circuit. Yet this process became practically impossible. This is because the amplifier used in it used a large amount of electricity. Thus only 10% of the energy was transmitted through it.

Performance increase.

Researchers have now developed a new process that eliminates the problems of the old process. As a result, the wireless transmission process is almost 92% efficient.

This is achieved by combining a new switched-mode amplifier to replace the old amplifier. Researchers also say that wireless charging could be extended to several kilometers in the future by expanding the process.

This newly invented technology will be powerful enough to charge the car on the road in the future. Also, the process of recharging wirelessly while robots are moving to factory sites will soon be implemented. This can improve the productivity of factories.
